Ad says: “Free car. drove into ditch. Don’t want to deal with it. Just get it. Keys in the ignition.” I once had a 626 like that. Wasn’t too bad. I actually quite liked it.

I had a high school teach named Mrs. Graben and just realized we missed an amazing opportunity to make fun of her due to our collective lack of Deutsch skills. Yeah, the 626 wasn't half bad. At age 12, I declared the '88 model to be my first ever "favorite car" (my dad used to take me driving around the neighborhood).

Can you just leave your car in a ditch in Germany, without it being towed within a day?

I’d say it depends on the location and road safety. If it’s not really a safety hazard, they will put stickers on it and send nasty letters to the owner requesting it to be removed immediately first, before towing it a week or two later.

Ah, I see, if a car is crashed into a ditch here, it is almost always removed immediately, once it is called in to the police/municipality.
